AFCON 2021: Cameroon and Burkina Faso Qualify For Next Round

Cameroon and Burkina Faso have qualified for the second round of the African Nations Cup in Cameroon, BSNsports.com.ng can report.
All eyes were on Group A as hosts Cameroon took on Cape Verde and Burkina Faso took on winless Ethiopia.
There was little pressure on hosts Cameroon as their two victories meant they had already qualified for the knockout stages, and they took advantage of this lack of pressure, taking the lead in the 39th minute with a great strike from the competition’s top scorer Vincent Aboubakar.
The Cameroon striker now has an impressive five goals in three at this year’s tournament.
Mendes Rodrigues converted Rocha Santos’ low cross with a clever back heel to draw Cape Verde level and give them a fighting chance. However, they couldn’t go on and score a winner, and they now face an anxious wait to see if they will qualify as one of the four best third placed teams.
Meanwhile, Ethiopia equalised from the penalty spot through captain Gataneh Kebede after falling behind in the first half courtesy of a lob from Cyrille Bayala, which gave Burkina Faso the lead.
The point was a valuable one for Burkina Faso as it meant they secured the second spot, despite being on the same number of points as Cape Verde, thanks to their head-to-head record.
Burkina Faso will now play either Morocco, Gabon, or Ghana in the last 16 this Sunday, whilst Cameroon must await their opponents, as they will be taking on the third-placed team in either Group C, D or E.
